3G ZTE Modem Support

ZTE 3G Modem Model: M627

Recently we encountered a problem with the above mentioned 3G USB Modem, it just wont pick it up as a modem and allow you to connect to internet as you are normally able with all other Haweui modems in Ubuntu. So after a bit of research we found the solution, which requires a little bit of changing configuration files but its a quick and easy fix to solve this problem. I will be working on an automated process for this bug.
Below is a link to a PDF document with full instructions, step-by-step, to get this modem working in Ubuntu. This does not apply to Ubuntu 9.10, will supply the fix for the others too. Try using this fix with the other distributions to see if it does the job and please let me know.

Finally here is the fix for Ubuntu 9.10 as well:

These two websites will give you the repositories to put in your synaptic package manager that will allow you to simply download it through your repositories. Here follow the links:

Instructions to install:

Repositories:

This will fix the modem on Ubuntu 9.10. It is said that there is no patch needed for Ubuntu 10.04. There is no need to supply a patch for it.

Please give your response if you have found this blog post helpful.
